Making a global impact at KUBO & HAWE
KUBO Group delivers innovative horticultural projects all over the world. They provide complete horticultural solutions, including software, advanced systems, and specialized installation technology. A large group of “bright minds” ensures that customers can always rely on the very best. Sara (30) and Jose (28) are two of them.

From greenhouse grower’s daughter to engineer
Perhaps it was somewhere in her genes: her grandparents ran the company Pakvis Kassenbouw in Monster. Despite that, Sara didn’t really feel a strong connection to horticulture. However, after studying Mechanical Engineering at TU Delft and completing a Master’s in High Tech Engineering, she ended up joining HAWE Cultivation Systems, one of the companies within the KUBO Group. This company designs, develops, and delivers innovative cultivation systems that transport plants through the greenhouse. “As a Mechanical Engineer, I create 3D models of our products. By building a model in a smart and parametric way, you don’t have to create a new drawing every time, and it’s much easier to implement modifications and improvements,” says Sara. “It feels great to develop new things and solve problems that way. And what makes it even more enjoyable is that I get to collaborate a lot with people from other departments.”

Changemakers
Sara is currently participating in the Changemakers Program by HortiHeroes. This program offers action-oriented training sessions and modules in which she not only learns the methods and tools for successful internal change but also immediately applies them in practice. “One day, I hope to lead my own department, and this program helps me grow toward that role. I’m grateful that the company gives me the opportunity to further develop myself in this way.”
Her colleague Jose (28) is originally from Ecuador. He works as a System Specialist in the team of cultivation specialists within KUBO. “I identify potential challenges customers may face in terms of climate and strategy when building a new greenhouse. I collect data and outline in a report where the challenges and the solutions lie.” To do this, Jose speaks with customers and listens carefully to their needs. “Based on that, we can provide tailored advice on what is and isn’t possible.”

Commitment
Jose came to the Netherlands to study in Wageningen. He first got to know KUBO at the GreenTech trade fair. “I was impressed by the company and decided to apply. I’ve now been working at KUBO for about a year and a half.” Jose is really enjoying his time there. “It feels like a family business. Everyone is committed to what we do, and people are always willing to help each other.” He also appreciates working in the horticulture sector. “We contribute to food security, sustainability, and a future for new generations. That’s how you truly make an impact.”
